Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian Review

Loved the premise of the first part? Now, the second installment of the hilarious “Night at the Museum” line reached our shores, and it is better than the first, in my opinion. Working on both levels, it awakened the inner soul of childhood and also, finds its way to our brains, making us feeling bewitched and educated at the same time.

The role that Ben Stiller plays, Larry is a pivoted one which links us back to the prequel. However, even if you have yet to catch the first movie, this second one would still be as enjoyable for you and definitely the kids in the family. The grown-ups would love the hysterical jokes (reading between the lines) and the kids would love the “monkeys”.

On another note, it not only portrays the fun parts, it also slowly guides us through the rites of passage of a divorcee – how he has to cope with life and his son. When his new found job as a watchman in a museum allows him to get face to face with all the museum’s exhibits in their full glory, his next chapter in life begins. But that was all in the first part.

All the new characters in the second part are fabulous, which include Al Capone, Napoleon Bonaparte and even Amelia Earhart (who plays a huge role), among others. Larry is now a successful businessman and with a small twist of fate (the exhibits had to be locked up in the Smithsonian museum as the Museum of Natural History had to be closed for technological upgrades and renovation), ends up at the museum again. Special effects are great and there are many old sayings to be learnt from the movie – from no less than the late President Lincoln too. You might even be intrigued on Hollywood’s take on how Motorola came about.

Of course, I could go into detail about the different signs or metaphors of the film but I would rather you go and experience the magic by yourself. Because…

You are not a “dumb dumb”, so I do not have to give you any “gum gum”!
