Many would know what The Oscar Awards are, but do you know about the Razzies? The Golden Raspberry Awards, frequently called the Razzies, was created in 1980 for dishonoring (or honoring) the worst acting, directing, films, etc that the film industry had to offer.
Usually, nominations are announced one day before the Motion Picture Academy announces its Oscar nominations, and the awards are presented one day before the Oscar ceremony, as a complement to the Oscars.
This year, Mike Myers’ misbegotten, far-from-mystical “comedy” The Love Guru was named the year’s Worst Picture. In addtion The Love Guru also received spray-painted gold for its screenplay and Myers as Worst Actor, in intentionally tacky ceremonies held on “Oscar Eve” at the Barnsdall Theatre in Hollywood.
“Sex-tape-celeb-utant” Paris Hilton, bagged a record-tying 3 trophies in a single year. She was named Worst Actress, Worst Screen Couple for the movie The Hottie & The Nottie. Not only that she was also chosen as Worst Supporting Actress in the film Repo: The Genetic Opera.
Other awards included Pierce Brosnan as Worst Supporting Actor for his tone-deaf turn in Mama Mia! The Worst Prequel went to Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.
I have to agree with the winner list, except for Pierce Brosnan’s award. I personally enjoyed the movie Mama Mia, even with his not-so-professional-offtune-pitch. I can’t imagine anyone playing a better role as Sam Carmichael than Brosnan. I think he really put in a lot of effort into his singing, and to me, it sounded a little “sexy” yet “funny”. Probably gave the movie a real refreshing twist.
