Visit Singapore at only $1

Amazing ain’t it?  I just came across this news and thought I’d share it with you guys. Singapore Airlines, together with Changi International Airport and Singapore Tourism Board, is offering tourists to visit Singapore at only $1. It would include free transport from the airport to the designated hotel, 1 night free stay, as well as free entries to places of interests like Sentosa and Bird Park. In addition, you’ll get a free Singtel prepaid Hi! Card as well.

Now this is what you call a bargain! The catch though is that you have to travel with SIA. Tourists who want to enjoy the “Faboulous Singapore Stopover” promotion will have to book  the flight from 15 April to 15 May 2009 for travel between 15 April and 30 September 2009.

Still not too bad a deal I’d say, especially if you’re someone who’s already intending to go on a holiday trip, but undecided on the location. Any (normal-minded, kiasu) holiday maker who gets to know of this promotion will immediately plan their getaway to our local sunny island.

On the whole, I think its a good move by STB. By bringing in more tourists, it would be more expenditure in Singapore, thus improving the local economy. However, its a short-term solution, in order for the economy to pick up again other measures will have to be implemented.

You can check out this link for all the full list of terms and conditions. The list of lodging options are separated into different categories so not all the hotels are eligible. But some though 3-stars are pretty decent, like Paramount Hotel (upgraded not too long ago) and Peninsula Excelsior (located just minutes from City Hall), both only at $1 for the first night. If you want to go for something more lavish, hotels like the Ritz only requires a top up of $132, while Amara Sanctuary Resort in Sentosa is just $105.

So spread the word to your overseas friends, and tell them to start packing their bags. One cool suggestion would be ask them to stay at your house for the first night, while we typical Singapore bargain hunters shall go enjoy the hotel privileges… =)
