Would You Recite the Pledge In Public?
This year’s NDP 2009 is going to be something special. I’ve read on the papers that on 9th of August 2009, at 8.22pm, Singapore’s national pledge will be broadcasted islandwide. Be it on national radio, shopping centres of restaurants. Wherever you are, high chances is that you’ll get to listen to the pledge.
The best part? All Singaporeans are invited to recite the pledge wherever you are. Even if you’re at a public area! Which then makes me wonder. Will we (Singaporeans) actually do it? Rather will anyone really do that in public?
For example lets say you’re happily chewing down a Big Mac, slurping away your large coke, and the Pledge comes on. Would you put down what you’re doing, slam your right fist on your left chest and go “We the citizens of Singapore…”, or just ignore it and look around to see if there’s anyone taking the challenge, then “Stomp” the guy?
Hmm I think I’ll probably fall into the second category. Anyway just for the records, Happy Birthday Singapore in advance
